Word add-in issue: unreadable content
If you encounter this issue when creating any meeting file (minutes, meeting-book, agenda-print etc.) and receive the following error, here’s what you can do:
Error message (English):
“Word found unreadable content in 'ABC- Minutes.docx'. Do you want to recover the contents of the document? Click 'Yes' if you trust the source of the document.”
Error message (German):
„Von Word wurde nicht lesbarer Inhalt in 'ABC- Minutes.docx' gefunden. Möchten Sie den Inhalt des Dokuments wiederherstellen? Klicken Sie auf 'Ja', wenn Sie der Dokumentquelle vertrauen.“
The error message comes up if you try to create any meeting file ( and if you have a Custom Template in place) e.g. and looks like this:
How to Troubleshoot
- Navigate to your Global template folder in SharePoint, where the Minutes template (or Meeting Book template, etc.) is stored.
- Locate the file Minutes.docx, right-click it, and select Open in the app so it opens in the Word Desktop application.
- In Word, go to the File tab in the top menu.
- Click on Info (left-hand side), then select Check for Issues → Inspect Document.
- Then in Document Inspector window, make sure that Document Properties and Personal Information option is selected and then click on Inspect button.
- Then click on Remove All and then close
- Click on Info (left-hand side), then select Properties → Advanced Properties (right-hand side).
- Click on the tab “Custom” on the right:
- Search for a property in the list there that is named “MSIP … “ where the value next to it is “True”. Select this one property and click “delete” to delete it.

- Make sure you update /refresh the agenda view first, before your try to create the meeting file now.
