How to deploy Decisions for Teams to your organization

This article will guide you through the best practices for deploying Decisions for Microsoft Teams in your organization.

Decisions have 2 apps for Teams called Decisions and Speak Now. Speak Now allows meeting participants in Microsoft Teams to “raise their hand” if they want to speak on a specific topic. The Decisions app can be added as tabs to team channels, and to the app bar allowing easy access to meeting material. Adding Decisions as tabs to individual channels needs to be done by an owner of that channel (or members if the team settings allow for that). Adding it to the App Bar needs to be done by a Microsoft Teams admin.

Microsoft Teams gives admins fine-grained control over what apps are available in a tenant, and the option to restrict apps to given users or groups. We recommend making Decisions available to the entire organization. The easiest way to do so so is to through the following steps:

  1. Open https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/
  2. Teams apps -> Permission policies
  3. Choose the global policy
  4. Choose to allow all 3rd party apps, or add Decisions and Speak Now to the list of allowed 3rd party apps

Note: It may take some time for updated policies to reflect for your users.

For more additional configuration options please refer to the rest of the sections.

Verify apps are not in the list of blocked apps

Refer to the following article for how to deal with permissions for applications: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-app-permission-policies

Add Decisions to the Microsoft Teams App Bar

Please follow the steps in this guide to add Decisions to the Microsoft Teams App Bar: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-app-setup-policies. If Decisions is not used by your entire organization we recommend that you create a policy that only shows this for users of Decisions.

Note: It may take some time for updated policies to reflect for your users.

Restrict access to specific users and/or groups

If you want to limit the availability of Decisions and Speak Now to specific users, you can follow this guide to create an application permission policy: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-app-permission-policies#create-a-custom-app-permission-policy.

Using the admin portal you can only assign individual users. If you need to assign groups please refer to the following article on how to do so using PowerShell: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-app-permission-policies#assign-a-custom-app-permission-policy-to-users.

Once the above steps are completed it will take some time for the polices to reach all users. Next please refer to the following article on how to add Decisions to Microsoft Teams channels.
